And that's precisely the problem today. We emphasize far too much that the first Eucharist was the Last Supper... therefore we should re-create that. Even the ancient agape feasts of early Christianity was not some kind of re-creation of the Last Supper. <br /><br />Now, mind you, those who object to the Ordinary Form by saying that it is no longer sacrificial and is instead "merely" a communal meal are wrong too. It is BOTH/AND. It is a sacrifice AND a communal meal. I definitely believe we went too far in the 1960s... but also we need to understand that, just as God is both infinite mercy AND infinite justice, our liturgy should do as much as it can to reflect everything that is the Mass. It is indeed communal worship and prayer and should have active participation. But we erred too far on emphasizing that and clouded the sacrifice.
