"Paul is going to say that, not only is suffering ok, nor even that it shows he is a follower of Jesus because he is willing to suffer and be rejected for him, but even a step further—he is going to claim that a true Christian life involves suffering and being rejected like him. If Jesus was made to seem weak and foolish on the cross, then what better vocational call can I experience than to be thought weak and foolish, especially by people who want to be seen as wise and strong and respected?"
